1-1 Animal Sculpture Workshop
Course Description
In this workshop you will be taught to create your very own animal ceramic animal sculpture. Using a combination of hollow forming and modelling sculptural techniques such as coiling, slab building and the use of armatures, supports and templates. As well as running through some basic drawing exercises and maquette making.
Your tutor Jack Durling will run through these methodically, step by step, for you to then use and inform your very own animal sculpture. Intermittently bringing the group round to demonstrate on his own piece. You will be aiming to produce a freestanding or sitting animal. It is encouraged you work towards creating a piece of 30cm x 30cm max.
In this course you should walk away with further knowledge of techniques to hand build and utilise and inform a further understanding of sculpting in clay. With a piece that’s evolved from initial ideas and essentially encapsulates your chosen animal.
Clay: You will be provided with Earth stone ES40 a white bodied, forgiving clay able to be stoneware fired with a nice fine grog.
Tools: You will be provided/ have access to necessary equipment for workshop. You will be taught how to hand build through slab and coiling mehods and techniques to be able to produce your very own clay animal creation.
This course will cover: Hand building techniques using slab and coiling methods. Armature's Maquette and drawing exercises. Methods of production and techniques in clay. Selection and idea concept development.
Refreshments: Such as tea, coffee and biscuits are available with a 30-minute lunch break. Toilet facilities are available at the workshop.
Reminder: You will be learning skills to create a sculpture of your very own, as much as it is about making a piece within your capabilities its about having fun and also learning a new skill.
Timings: Course: 10am - 4.30pm Lunch: 12.30pm - 1pm
