Patch, Bowhead Whale, Cloaked Cetacea

Patch, Bowhead Whale, Cloaked Cetacea

H35cm x W18cm x D17cm

Bespoke one off hollow formed hand-coiled stoneware ceramic sculpture embellished with hand decorated slip pattern and mother of pearl lustre. The Bowhead Whale was once pushed to the brink of extinction and not recognised as a separate species from the Right Whale until recent times. It has the largest mouth of any living animal and can also live the longest, up to 200 years. Today these graceful ocean giants face threat from plastic, through ingesting it and through being entanglement within it. This underlying message is embodied within the piece.
